Back Your Gifts Supported the First Requirement to Start Research – Datasets! Gifts to Research support innovation and excellence at INSEAD Share Data is the most valuable resource in the world today. Access to research datasets is the bedrock upon which academic excellence stands. However, subscriptions to best-in-class datasets are expensive. Unlike peer schools that benefit from a university’s shared resources, INSEAD has to fund the datasets at our Research and Learning Hub through its operational budget and philanthropic support. One of the ways your gifts to research in 2019/2020 supported innovation and excellence is by making available two heavily used datasets to faculty and students: Refinitiv is the world’s most comprehensive financial suite of datasets that provides stock and market data information. It is used by our faculty in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Strategy as well as by PhD and Degree Programme students. Science Direct covers journal articles, books and book chapters across Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering, Life Sciences and Health Sciences. As research gets increasingly cross-disciplinary, our faculty and PhD students are using this database ever more to explore new concepts. Enhancing our reputation The data from these resources helps to generate and test the uniqueness and value of research hypotheses, explore the latest trends and derive insights and analysis. Accessing this data is the first step to creating evidence-based, data-driven, rigorous new research that is eventually published in A-listed journals. Publishing in these journals constitutes a measure in business school rankings. Hence supporting these publications are a great way to strengthen not only our research reputation but our overall recognition as a leading business school.
