Looking Forward with Optimism

Ilian Mihov, Dean of INSEAD

INSEAD was founded on the revolutionary idea that the right kind of management education — rigorous, entrepreneurial, close to the pulse of global business — can help build a better world. Every year, I find more reasons to believe in this pioneering vision, and 2021 was no exception. Today, as we take stock of philanthropy’s impact and look toward what we all hope will be a better future, I remain optimistic — because of you.

Alumni, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers — in 2021, you all united to expand our philanthropic community. Your confidence in the vision that founded our school and your support for our mission despite the challenging circumstances reveal the true nature of INSEAD people: resilient, adaptable and deeply dedicated to advancing business as a force for good.

The past two years have tested one of INSEAD’s greatest strengths: the unique spark that is ignited when we gather, from all over the world, in learning, collaboration and friendship. With your support, INSEAD rose to the challenges of pandemic-era education, sustaining our commitment to scholarships and excelling in the digital realm with innovative programmes. As our world reopens, we look forward to reuniting in Abu Dhabi, Fontainebleau, San Francisco and Singapore. Renewing our campuses over time will remain a priority because, no matter how important online programmes become, in-person learning with its undoubted strengths and benefits will remain key to creating the business leaders INSEAD is known for.

As you read this year’s donors report and learn more about what your generosity has made possible, I hope you will also take time to remember two of the school’s founders. In 2021, we marked the passing of Claude Janssen and Olivier Giscard d’Estaing, who both dedicated their time, energy and experience to breathe life into the original INSEAD vision and oversaw our development into the Business School for the World. While we mourn their loss, their legacy lives on through you. You are the spark that ignites the idea of INSEAD and transforms it into reality. Thank you for stewarding the flame.
